Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the mission of ICCAP?
A: ICCAP is here to help ensure that people are who they say they are. Primarily our aim is to make the identity of people on the Internet more reliably knowable, but our standards may be applied to authentication in the physical world as well.
Q: Who may be certified by the Council?
A: There are three general qualifications:- Extensive training, as evidenced by professional qualifications beyond a notary appointment
- An ability to meet professional liability requirements
- An unblemished record of integrity
More specifically, an ICCAP Certified Notary must be a Latin Notary (very different from a Notary Public in common law jurisdictions), or, in common law jurisdictions, a Notary and Attorney in good standing, an experienced Court Reporter, an experienced Signing Agent (Notary Public with additional qualifications) or a Notary Public with extensive experience.
